I also found a power cord for a T3i that I can plug into my power bank so I will not have to worry about camera battery levels. I hope I can find it and if I do I should be able to slide the 1.25" camera adapter right into it, and this will also work with the focal reducer. I think the original 1.25 diagonal was two piece with one section screwing right into the scope. I have been using a 2" diagonal that screws right into the back of the scope. I found a mount for the camera with a 1.25 end. I have a Meade 8" SCT so the adapter I should get while mount to the back of the scope like my 2" diagonal ? I know the camera mount will be for the Cannon but the tube will that have a threaded end for the telescope and if it doesn't how will I be able to mount it to my focal reducer? (I use a 7-in Mak-Cass, but its rear is SCT-threaded.) My setup and results for planetary with my T3i is here.
There is nothing wrong with either method. I do not, but I have a set of Abbe eyepieces that give me sharp-as-a-tack results with eyepiece projection. If you have a good barlow, that is typically the standard for planetary capture. Backyard EOS will let you capture via LiveView at 30fps Backyard NIKON does not capture nearly as quickly. You have to stack thousands of frames to get good SNR for planetary detail. If you're going to use the DSLR for planetary, the Canon has the edge. If you plan to shoot deep space objects, you will need to guide. You don't plug into the diagonal because the camera will cause the diagonal to sag, which will offset the image plane from the sensor plane. You plug the camera in where you plug in the diagonal.

You just need an EF-mount to T-thread plus 1.25" adapter. (Between the articulated screen and a right-angle finderscope, I haven't knelt before my telescope in years!)Īttaching the camera to the scope is easy.
The articulated screen is unbelievably useful for AP-if I ever had to upgrade, a lack of articulated screen would be a deal breaker. I LOVE my T3i! It replaced my XSi and has been great overall camera that's been with me for many years.

The videos you take are processed in software named AutoStakkert!3, sharpened in a software called Registax (both are free) and then, if desired, further processed in GIMP or Photoshop. Backyard EOS can frame, focus and take videos for planetary (you take videos for planetary AP, and long exposures-bulb mode-for DSO AP). Using a laptop and software such as Backyard EOS (there are others) is, IMO, far superior to struggling with focusing on the small camera screen, jolting the scope in the process. And that's about it as far as lunar/planetary AP is concerned (for DSO AP you will want a reducer/corrector). I have researched the cost of a used Cannon T3 $150.00 or so and the T3i around $200.00 and a factory refurbished laptop for the field running Windows 10 $250.00 If someone could share their thoughts on the pros and cons of both methods this will be helpful. I have read that you can take photos with and without the use of a laptop attached to the camera. I've heard of "Eyepiece Projection" is this a different type of adapter? What will I need to attach the Cannon to a Meade 8 inch SCT.?Īre there different types of adapters for attaching to the rear of the cell or would it mount into my diagonal?
